Kannur, April 19: A police officer from Kannurt district of Maharashtra was arrested on Tuesday on charges of killing a dog and disposing of its remains.
Police inspector Rajesh Kumar Kumar, 50, was booked under sections 302 (murder), 341 (intentional insult with intent to outrage religious sentiments), 341A (causing hurt by insulting religious feelings), 354 (intentionally causing hurt by insult) of the IPC.
A case was registered under section 302 (a) (1) (a), 341(1)(b) (b), 354A (a)(i) (ii) (iii) (iv) of IPC against Kumar, who was posted at the Bijapur police station in Bijapa.
Police said Kumar was allegedly present at a spot where the dog was shot dead and its remains were found.
Kumar is a member of the Haryana Rural Police and is employed as an inspector.
The district administration has been informed about the arrest.
